The founders had had enough of the polluting aspect of the industry and decided to start their own sustainable brand Brava — a clothing brand for men and women who prefer quality over quantity.
Brava only works with the following materials: organic cotton, organic linen, organic wool, recycled polyester and Lenzing Ecovero. This is how the brand wants to contribute to the planet.
Most of their garments are made of one material and are, therefore, easy to recycle. This makes Brava even more attractive for COSH! Nonetheless, their material-blended products make the brand not fully circular since the combination of fibres makes it more difficult to “close the loop” once a clothing piece is discarded.
Do it best, do it locally – this surely applies to Brava fabrics! The brand produces every piece in Spain – precisely in Barcelona, where they have their own warehouse – and in Portugal. Another thumbs up for the brand? They know their suppliers and check them out personally several times a year.
Brava’s animal welfare policy is not yet specified in full on their website; they indeed mention they prefer mulesing-free merino wool materials in their knitwear, but some garments are also made of recycled wool – and it is not known in which conditions their suppliers outsource it.
The clothing brand also presents itself as a slow fashion one on the market. Brava does this by drawing a red line through all their collections. Following trends is not in their dictionary, nor is fast fashion.
Their score in the COSH! index for transparency sets at 30 out of 100; not the most transparent brand around, in fact, they disclose information, but too little is said about their suppliers’ addresses or their all-business model approach regarding circularity and animal well-being. But we are waiting for further developments on that!
